From Passion to Pathway: I’m Headed to NYU for Costume Studies!

Readers! This spring, I received the email that changed everything: I’ve officially been accepted into the Master’s Program in Costume Studies at NYU Steinhardt for Fall 2025! It still doesn’t feel real.
For years, I’ve been fascinated by the intersection of fashion and literature—how clothing reflects not only personal identity but broader historical narratives, cultural norms, and social expectations. This program is truly the perfect place to deepen that exploration. NYU’s Costume Studies is one of the few programs that blends theoretical inquiry with material culture, bridging fashion history with the humanities, art history, museum studies, and more.
What excites me most? The chance to study actual garments, archival texts, and historical records while being in the heart of New York City—a living, breathing museum of fashion and culture.
This next chapter means new research, creative challenges, and of course, lots of library hours (my happy place). I’m looking forward to connecting with fellow scholars, curators, and costume historians who share my passion.
To anyone who has ever felt that their niche interests were “too specific” or “too weird”: your passion is your power. Follow it boldly—it might just land you at your dream school!
NYU Here I come!
