Classic Works of Women Writers

Publication date: 2018

Lisandra’s Thoughts:

Happy Women’s Month, readers! To celebrate, I decided that the collection “Classic Works From Women Writers” would be the perfect volume for this marvelous month. This collection amplifies women’s voices from the 17th century onward. As we know, women from all over the world have been striving to make their voices heard for centuries, and this volume features more than thirty novels, short stories, poems, and essays by both well-known female authors and those who haven’t received the recognition they deserve.

Some of the authors included in this collection are Mary Shelley, Agatha Christie, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Amy Lowell, and Sara Teasdale. Additionally, Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters are featured as well. I truly appreciate how this collection encompasses a variety of women’s voices across multiple centuries within one text. It allows readers to compare different perspectives without needing to purchase a plethora of books.

The works of these women highlight their efforts to educate the world about the obstacles and challenges faced by women due to societal expectations. These expectations pertain to race, gender, class, marriage, and motherhood.

Recommendation:

This volume is invaluable for anyone wanting to research women and their roles in society across various centuries. It is also a great resource that any reader—man or woman—would benefit from due to its diverse offerings, all within a single text.
