A LOVELY LOOK INSPIRED BY "THE COUNTRY HOUSEWIFE'S GARDEN" BY WILLIAM LAWSON

This look was a joy to create, celebrating the first gardening book specifically for women! I chose a sage-colored dress from Thredup, perfectly reflecting the herbal themes in William Lawson's text. Lawson mentions various herbs, many of which have inspired clothing colors we use today, such as lavender, rose pink, and sage. He notes, “...Lavender-spike would be removed within seven years, or eight at the most; slips twined, as Hyssop and Sage, would take best at Michael-tide” (Lawson 29). Sage, in particular, is highlighted as an herb that helps keep bees away, further connecting this beautiful color to the garden.

To complement the dress, I paired it with pearl earrings from Shein, as I find that sage and pearls create a lovely combination. I also added a floral blazer from a local thrift store for a stylish layer, along with a vintage floral headscarf for extra detail as I stroll through the garden.
